Update & Report:

On Saturday, 27 June 2009, 54 unique and wonderful picnickers (and 3 dogs) gathered together in Relay, MD for an outstanding afternoon.  All of us enjoyed perfect weather, beautiful grounds (thanks Janet, Christine and  Rosemary), great music (thanks Hula Monsters) and great food (thanks MA's kettle, Laurel Meat Market, especially, and, especially, fellow picnickers).

Although we're thinking that 2009 will be the last World Class Picnic,  several guests have told us that they "intend to trespass on the Saturday after Fathers' Day 2010", and have a picnic whether we want to do it or not.  We'll see what happens.  In any case, it has been a great series of picnics that have brought many cool people together.

BTW:  First batch of pictures is up on the web site, more to follow.  Thanks in advance to all of the photographers who will be e-mailing their pictures to us.

Thanks to everyone who made this event happen, and All the Best,

Janet and Ray.

You and your family are invited to attend the 23rd annual World Class Picnic, which will be held Saturday, 27 June 2009 at the Cherry Mansion in Relay, MD.   We will provide everything, but we need for you to register so that we decide how many steaks to buy.  Please click here to register.

Here are the Directions to the Picnic and a Map

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN, but please report bugs to Picnic@CherryEngineering.com  .

Reason:  We're still adding a few new features (and, Software Dudes and Dudettes, you know what that means ).

Background:  Twenty two years ago Ray was working for Litton in College Park, Maryland and wanted the brilliant young software and hardware engineers he managed to get to know each other better.  So, we held the first picnic in our relatively small back yard in Columbia, Maryland.  What was unique about this gathering was that spouses and children were invited.  Over the years, Janet's friends and colleagues have joined us, as well as neighbors, friends of friends, and associates from the many companies that Ray has worked for since then.   The picnic is now held in a huge backyard of our house, which will be restored in 2015,  in Relay, MD.  The best attended picnic had just over 100 picnickers, the average is less.  No matter how many people attend, all of us have always had a good time.

Foreground:  You are invited to join us for the 2009 picnic.  We hope that you can make it.  We are sure that you (and everyone else) will have a great time.

Future:  I'm not sure about the future, but this could be the last picnic in Relay, MD.  Like last year, future picnics may be held at our "trailer" in Romney, WV.  The Hula Monsters have performed in Romney, and - with the installation of a new lift in the garage - one of the picnic benefits could be an oil change.

    All the Best,

        Ray and Janet.
